the surfer's journal 20 years

jb films just finished up a really exciting project patagonia asked chris malloy and us to create. steve and debbee pezman are celebrating their 20th year of producing the perennial magazine documentation of the surfing lifestyle, "the surfer's journal."

c.m. and j.b. took the pacific surfliner from ventura to san clemente with patagonia founder, yvon chouinard, to document the magazine's history.

it was truly a joy to spend time with both yvon and the pezman family. patagonia was one of the first companies to advertise in the journal (who is a subscription based magazine with six select sponsors). yvon states that quality in any business is the key to survival and "the journal" is the best magazine out there. chouinard also offered, "if my house was burning down, my wife would grab the photos and i'd grab my collection of the surfer's journal."

we have to agree with the sage business leader and thank him for the inspiration.

JB Films & C. Malloy collaborate for Patagonia

i've been lucky enough to team up with my friend and fellow filmmaker, chris malloy, on an exciting short film series for patagonia clothing. everyone i've met at patagonia is truly passionate about what they do and chris had a cool idea to highlight a series of people who also do what they love, for a living. called, preOccupations, we've been able to hang out with some really fascinating folks and spend a few days in their life documenting. it's been a rewarding experience on many levels, meeting these people and learning about what they do, experimenting with new digital filmmaking technology and enjoying the creative process with a good friend. you can see one of the first videos in patagonia's new online catalogue, here. hope you enjoy.

One Cal Day Plays with James Blunt

We were really jazzed to support the Help for Heroes Concert - James Blunt, a fan of One California Day, asked if he could show some clips from our film during his performance. Glad we could contribute to a good cause. you can find One Cal Day here.
